Red, White, & Brew

“I Am American”
“An Angry American” by Tobey Keith (Original)

American Girls and American Guys
We'll always drink up and enjoy
We will always sacrifice
When we see what we want[1]
We’ll always stand and fight
So we can sleep in peace at night
Knowing what we’ve done is right

We all believe in the army
Where they say we unjustly die
But we never lose a war
And our flag will always fly [2]
Because we want our mothers, our brothers, our sisters and me
To never have our dreams looks bleak
And enjoy the language we speak

Now this nation that I love
They say it’s getting fat
But we help out all our children
And we’re never looking back [3]
So we can see clearly
Through these caring eyes
Man, we’ve stood tall with each other
Since the 4th of July

Hey Uncle Sam
Has always been there to take a stand
And the Statue of Liberty
Will lend a helping hand
And the eagle will fly [4]
And forever he’ll soar
And you know Mother Freedom
Is never locking her door
And it’ll feel like the whole wide world is standing right beside you
Ahhh Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Brew

Ohhh Countries claim we never come to their aid
And the American image will surly fade
But we always remember our debts
And will never forget
And you'll be sorry you ever doubted [5]
The U.S. of A.
Cause we'll do what is right
It's the American way

Hey Uncle Sam
Has always been there to take a stand
And the Statue of Liberty
Will lend a helping hand
And the eagle will fly
And forever he’ll soar
And you know Mother Freedom
Is never locking her door
And it'll feel like the whole wide world is standing right beside you
Ahhh Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Brew

[1] The opening verse of this song is where I try to convey my main theme, which is that America is defined as a nation of pride. I talk about America wanting to sacrifice for what we believe in, and we will always support our great nation. We have almost 1.7 million men and women enlisted in the armed services, which is the second highest number next to China. America was founded on the principle that we must stand up for what we believe is right. Americans have fought and died for the ideas such as freedom and pursuit of happiness, basic principles on which our country was founded.

[2]
America has always been criticized for its involvement in wars, most recently noted is the war in Iraq. The war in Iraq was extremely controversial, one main critics of the U.S. was Canada. As our ally they had considered the possibility of supporting us in our war efforts, but the Canadian citizens made it clear that helping the U.S. was not an option. Over 250,000 Canadians gathered in Montreal in protest of America and our involvement in Iraq. Yes there were Americans that agreed with Canada. Still a staggering amount of Americans were in full support of the war, mainly due to the fact that the events on 9/11 had sparked American patriotism all over the country. The last lines in this verse show that that our nation is one that enjoys all our freedoms. We fight and stand up for what we believe in because we enjoy the culture we have come accustomed to and we are proud of the freedoms that the U.S. enjoys.

[3] There is no doubt that America is overweight and has suffered persecution from all over the world because of it.  It has become a problem in America but in recent years there has been a big effort to stop this trend from continuing. The main goal is to but a stop to childhood obesity, and many programs have formed all over the country in support of this cause. One that is notable is the NFL’ s play 60 program that involves many professional athletes that children look up to and idolize. This program helps kids to get outside and enjoy exercise with the encouragement of many NFL stars. We have decided that exercise alone isn’t enough, even state and federal legislations have been set in place to stop the serving of junk food and soda in school cafeterias all over the nation. This shows that there is an effort to care about one another in this country, we do have enough pride in our country to help each other completely based on the fact that they are Americans.

[4]
I think the main chorus helps to bring together all the main points I have made throughout the song. I decided to keep all of the American icons such as Uncle Sam and the statue of liberty because they are all iconic images that help define America. Americans will always have enough pride in our country to take a stand on what is right or wrong and I believe that Uncle Sam who is the image for a time of war is a great representation of that. The statue of liberty is like a mother that watches over all of us and shows the caring nature we have for fellow Americans, and to protect each other’s freedoms and wellbeing. Seeing how the eagle is our countries biggest symbol it shows that our country will never die out and continue as long as we believe in America. Mother freedom will never lock her door because as Americans we all have freedoms that can never be taken away.

[5] The last verse is a criticism on the American foreign aid policy. Many foreign nations feel that America doesn’t give help to those in need, and of the 22 most developed countries we do give the least percentage of our GDP to foreign aid. But in actuality of these 22 countries we supply the most fund of foreign aid throughout the world. Because we are the wealthiest nation in the world it the percentage of our GDP we give is much lower than the actual amount. This shows pride in our country because we come to the realization of how wealthy we are in comparison to most and find ways to give help to those in need.
